This photo was taken in Venice and is of the Venetian flag. The flag has a winged lion, the symbol for Saint Mark, with a book, commonly mistakenly for the Bible, with a Latin inscription that translates into “Peace unto thee, Mark, my evangelist.” It’s said that St. Mark passed by the lagoon and an angel appeared. The angel told him “Peace unto thee, Mark, my evangelist. Here your body will rest.” His body does now rest in Venice…in the cathedral in the background of this photo.
