The 2010 Blizzard
Just got through with a pretty wicked snowed-in weekend, full of trekking across Richmond city in single digit weather and sledding at mach speed in Maymont park. Here are a few pics:
Memorial Day
In celebration of the freedom that was the Memorial Day three-day weekend, a few friends and myself went camping for a few days. It was a wonderful time but the highlight of it was our trek to the top of Sharp Top Mountain of the Peaks of Otter (personally, my second trip up there in under a week).
After a few breaks and catching our breath, we finally made it up to the summit where they’ve built a shelter via helicopter and a few overlooks into the stones on top. But the real fun part of the story is our hike down to the lower side of the mountain to find a B25 bomber that crashed in the winter of 1943 while performing night maneuvers in preparation for the second World War. After a little hiking off the beaten path, we arrived at the crash site.
Needless to say, its a solemn reminder (and even moreso on Memorial Day weekend) of the sacrifices our Armed Services make both here and overseas to keep up safe and free. Now, nine ticks and two days later, I still have the opportunity to share my trek to the site with you.
The Fourth Dimension
Anyone that knows me knows that I’m a huge Donnie Darko fan. Well, the whole premise is that there’s a fourth dimension that we can’t even begin to comprehend and Donnie, in this movie, thinks he’s going crazy. Well, Carl Sagan explains this dilemma nicely by explaining what an 3D object would do to a 2D world. Also, a little bit of useless info, the voice of Agent Smith in the Matrix trilogy is based on this guy.
